A LAST CHOICE
Certain steps need to be discussed with the family's legal advisor
to avoid guardianship, if possible.
A KNOWLEDGEABLE PERSON
Select with care the person who will be appointed by the court
to serve as a guardian for you or your loved one.
A COORDINATOR OF SERVICES
Arranges for everything from accounting to yard workor
for any other service which can be procured at a rate less than
what a guardian is allowed by the court to charge for a guardian's
services.
A FINANCIAL MANAGER
Funds that belong to the incapacitated person remain the property
of that person. All funds are accounted for and kept separate
from the guardian's personal funds. The guardian must provide
an accurate accounting of those funds to the court.
AN ADVOCATE
A guardian actively advocates for protection of the remaining
rights and restoration of rights of the incapacitated person,
including the rights guaranteed to those residing in nursing
homes and assisted living facilities.
